Quilt Block History of Pioneer Days [Paperback] Review

Quilt Block History of Pioneer Days [Paperback]I was asked to present a quilting demonstration for 144 4th graders during their "Pioneer Day" study. As references I secured several books, magazines, articles, etc.The Quilt Block History of Pioneer Days was by far the best. The projects outlined in the book for children to do corresponding with the story were easy to do and could really help today's child relate to life in pioneer times.

I would recommend this book for anyone interested in quilting history, but especially for adults working with children.

Quilts From The Quiltmaker's Gift [Paperback] Review

Quilts From The Quiltmaker's Gift [Paperback]"Quilts from the Quiltmaker's Gift" is undoubtably the most beautiful quilting book I have seen yet.Based on the recently published children's story, "The Quiltmaker's Gift", which is also atreasure, this book includes patterns and directions for making 20traditional quilts. What impressed me the most when I first picked upthis book was the gorgeous look and feel of the pages. Upon closerinspection, I have found the directions for each quilt to be very clear andeasy to follow. Directions and fabric requirements are given for a lap, double and queen size quilt for each pattern.I especially like the waythe authors have shown each quilt in at least 2 different color schemes andsometimes a variation of the pattern. An added feature of this book is theinteresting historical background information on each quilt block.Alsohelpful are the design challenges which give you tips and suggestions forfabric choices, block settings, borders, etc. I would highly recommend thisbook to any experienced or novice quilter.
