Silk Quilts : From the Silk Road to the Quilter's Studio [Illustrated] [Paperback] Review

Silk Quilts : From the Silk Road to the Quilter's Studio [Paperback]This book is one of only two on the Amazon website that addresses the production of silk quilts. The lack of books on the subject is probably due to the price of silk on the world market, which has been increasing steadily in the last ten years. One source of silk supply that is more readily available and less expensive is Japanese bulk kimono, available from several websites (do a Google search to find them.

In addition to a lot of history and background information, this book does include helpful information for working with silk that can be used when recycling kimono, which is what I purchased the book for. If you are a beginner working with these materials, you will find the book helpful. If you like traditional quilt patterns, you will appreciate the six patterns at the back of the book. I did not find a lot of new information about silk sewing and quilting that I hadn't already discovered through experimenting, and I found her traditional quilting patterns kind of stodgy. But this is a quality book and may be the right approach for some people.
