Baltimore Bride's Quilt Designs (Dover Pictorial Archive) [Paperback] Review

This book is a great addition to the Baltimore Album style patterns you already have. There are no instructions just blocks showing the patterns. I enlarged them to fit my block size and many of them I have not seen anywhere else. There are also border ideas shown toward the back. I think thisis a good book and a wonderful asset to any quilter's library.

The usual for quilt books would be one or two of the patterns are winners; not so with this book.The market for this book will be traditional quilters as the patterns are not artsy. All the patterns are creative, beautiful, warm and very doable.It's a shame the publisher does not include pictures.You will find all the patterns will fall on your "to do" list of quilts to make.The applique is not undully complicated or difficult and the quilts can be completed in a reasonable amount of time.

This book is good for someone who has never tried doing a Baltimore Album Quilt or three dimensional flowers.But if the quilter is familiar with the techniques, the book is far too simple.It presents different layouts and techniques in a clear manner, and Ms. Dietrich does a good job with simple patterns.However, for someone who is wishing to learn about the more complex patterns and the history of this very beautiful quilt form, this book is only a taste of what can be learned from far more detailed sources.
