Instant Bargello (That Patchwork Place) [Paperback] Review

Instant Bargello [Paperback]I have always liked the Bargello pattern when I used it in needlepoint or plastic canvas patterns.I definitely do not like it in a quilt. This book shows picture quilts changed into the Bargello pattern. It makes them hard to look at, in my opinion, and difficult to see what the picture actually is.

The book itself has six pages on basic quilting. The patterns give the finished size and a color photo of the quilt.A materials and cutting list is provided.Assembly instructions follow these lists. There are no graphics to show what the written steps are talking about. There are no quilting suggestions and the only finishing instructions are lay the quilt top on batting and backing, baste and quilt. Not much help for a beginner.

There are six projects and a two photo gallery of other quilts. There is a short bio on the author.

This is not a book I would recommend purchasing unless you are extremely excited about the Bargello look and have enough quilting experience that you don't need finishing suggestions.

Bargello Quilts [Paperback] Review

Bargello Quilts [Paperback]I used this book for the first Bargello quilt I ever made because I was facinated by the quilt on the cover.I read the instruction pages a number of times before I began. It was not difficult to follow the cutting and layout plans.Of course the first one I made WAS the one on the cover. It was a gift for my son's drapery shop and he has had many positive comments and an offer to buy it.
I have made two more quilts/wall hangings from this book and have another in mind.I just wish there were specific instructions for some of the pictures.
I highly recommend this book!

Bargello Quilts with a Twist [Paperback] Review

Bargello Quilts with a Twist [Paperback]I don't think the designs in this book are what I love about Bargello--embroidery or quilts.

That said, She's taken what Mary Ellen Hopkins calls a 2-bell block and run with it.One can do incredible numbers of things with this block that looks remarkably like not very much at all when you see just one.

(two bell blocks are generally very simple blocks with at least two different kinds of corners that are perfect for arranging and rearranging in larger patterns)In fact I've resisted using this kind of block for many years.Maggie Ball has changed my mind.A quilt made with this particular block, or something like it is now on my list of quilts to make

Twist and Turn Bargello Quilts [Paperback] Review

Twist and Turn Bargello Quilts [Paperback]When I first looked at the quilts in "Twist - and - Turn Bargello Quilts" my thought was Wow, these quilts are amazing! My second thought was Yeah but could I make one. After reading through the directions and introduction the answer is definitely YES!

Eileen Wright's directions are clear and easy to understand. In her introduction she covers topics such as how to choose the fabrics to achieve the different visual effects, how to cut and piece the strips to avoid distortion and how to keep everything organized as you go along. Her experience teaching this method shows in the tips and suggestions which are included throughout the book. The design maps, which are included for each project, help keep you organized and provide a reference while you are sewing. In addition to the beautiful full sized quilts there are directions for making a table runner and placemats. These smaller projects allow you to get a feel for bargello quilting without the commitment to a larger project.

"Twist - and - Turn Bargello Quilts" makes these visually complex and beautiful quilts very doable!
