This book has absolutely everything just as the title states.
The best part is the size of the book, and that it lies flat, for the full size Quilting Designs, which are Spectacular, there all Full-Size(no connect here!), as are all the Applique Templates(no enlarge 400%). I Love the Coxcomb Quilt, it is absolutely a pleasure to make, and then have all the Quilt Designs as well, so you don't have to go to 3 different books to finish one Quilt. Excellent Book, soooo Glad I purchased it, It was a wonderful Surprise, especially since there was no photo, better than most books, that had a cover picture!!! Oh! and Great Price!!!

Follow-the-Line Quilting Designs Volume Four: Full-Size Patterns for Blocks and Borders [Paperback] Review

I have been eagerly anticipating the publication of a new quilting book and was very excited to see it finally available. I already own all of the other books in this series (Volumes 1, 2 and 3) and have been waiting for months for the publication of this volume.

Mary Covey''s latest volume in her Follow-the-Line Quilting Designs series is technically not a book, but rather separate sheets packaged in a box. This "book" has just been published by Martingale and Company and it promises to be as wonderful as the previous 3 volumes.

You may ask why I like these designs so much. Well, there are several reasons. I like the fact that these are continuous line designs. I am a 'hurry up' kind of gal and like to get things done quickly, before I lose interest, so... continuous line quilting designs are my favourite motifs to work with. I don't have to stop, re-position and start quilting again.

Now, sometimes you may want to do blocks separately. If this is the case, Mary has an answer for this too. For each continuous line design in the book, there is also a block design in various sizes. That's great, but what is even better is that she also provides corner triangles to match, so you're covered no matter where you want to quilt. Oh, did I mention that her border designs include turning the corner, so you are able to keep right on going up the side of your quilt without having to turn and match motifs? Yes, Mary has thought of everything.

Sometimes I have trouble determining where to start and how to follow a continuous line motif. Again, Mary comes to my rescue. She includes a 'start' point and has arrows and numbers for you to follow so you don't get confused stitching the patterns.

Another feature that I like in this series is that each design is on its own page. The pages open up and the border motif, with the turning corner and side repeat, are there. This is easier, and more accurate, to use than trying to trace a quilting design from a book.

Best of all is Mary''s choice of designs. I find her motifs easy enough for a beginner, yet interesting enough, and with enough variety, to complement any project.

I have had a short-arm home quilting system with a laser and pantograph shelf for only about 6 months now, so am a beginner at machine quilting.I find Mary's designs very easy to follow, and very well planned.Start and center lines are indicated on the papers, as well as lines for aligning the pattern to the border. She also includes numbers for learning the flow of the pattern.Best of all, her design sheets show you how to get around the corner of your quilted border!The designs range from all purpose scrolls and feathers to leaves and garden flowers, as well as more whimsical designs such as dogs and stars/moons.She includes sub-designs for corner squares and quilt blocks as well.I have several machine quilting books but but find myself relying almost exclusively on these designs!I am hoping the author creates another pattern packet soon!

i had seen this book reviewed in a quilting magazine, and made a vague mental note to look into it.then, i found it at a local quilt shop, looked into it, and bought it.

the author is an award-winning quilter, and it is her work that is featured in the book. her quilts are breathtaking, varied, and beautiful.the photos and illustrations are first rate.the instructions are detailed and straight-forward.the author assumes her readers have functioning brains and the desire to learn and excel. there are instructions for specific quilts in the text and also many additional quilting designs.the author also includes suggestions for adapting designs to quilting which are very helpful.

highly recommnded.

Material Obsession: Modern Quilts with Traditional Roots [Paperback] Review

First of all, I just want to say that it is a wonderful book, with lots of lovely and inspiring text and pictures. But I have to say I was a bit disappointed when I realised that it was exactly the same book as 'Material Obsession - Contemporary quilt designs', which I bought a year ago. I was so excited when a saw there was a new book coming, but when I got it - it was just a new publisher and front.

Quiltmaking by Hand: Simple Stitches, Exquisite Quilts [Paperback] Review

I am truly inspired by this book. I made my first couple of quilts by hand, but I didn't feel that I was a "real" quilter until I had bought the sewing machine. All the books and magazines seemed to be completely geared up to machime piecing and so I felt that hand piecing was seen as quaint and outdated. So it was a revalation to find out that Jinny Beyer, a reknown quilter and teacher whose quilts I had always admired, made them ALL by hand! Her explanation of how quilts can be advanced piece by piece in "found" moments has made me think that perhaps handpiecing is THE way to quilt for busy women today.
Her directions and detailed photographs make it easy for anyone who has never picked up needle and thread and her enthusiasm, on every page of the book, will build your confidence. Also, the photographs of her lovely silver needlework accessories and the insets about quilting history add to the inspiration.
If you think you haven't got time to hand piece, read this and think again.
