Cotton Candy Quilts: Using Feedsacks, Vintage and Reproduction Fabrics [Paperback] Review

Cotton Candy Quilts: Using Feedsacks, Vintage and Reproduction Fabrics [Paperback]I have really enjoyed reading this book.I found it very informative and enjoyable and plan to use several of the patterns.I have purchased an additional copy to be part of a table decoration that I am making for the annual fall meeting of the Utah Quilt Guild.I've purchased about 15 books in the last 6 months and have enjoyed this one the most.I think it will sell very well. Our Guild has over 1000 members, and hopefully the book will get exposure at the meeting from vendors that are there. One problem I had was that I would have liked to have the Indian hatchet pattern printed in the book and it was not.If anyone knows where I could get a copy of it I would appreciate them letting me know.

Nickel Quilts: Great Designs from 5 Inch Scraps [Paperback] Review

Nickel Quilts: Great Designs from 5 Inch Scraps [Paperback]If you are like me, you have fabric pieces of all sizes, from tiny scraps to major yardage, stashed on shelves and in boxes and drawers all over your house. This book is perfect for people like us. The quilts are beautiful and surprisingly simple to construct, for the most part. The authors devote the first part of the book to a series of techniques for converting 5" squares into checkerboard blocks, half-square triangle blocks, quarter-square triangle blocks, and "picket fences" as efficiently as possible. These directions are very complete and well explained. They also suggest buying a little extra fabric each time you shop, and ctting off a five-inch strip right away. Plus they give great instructions on how to hold a 5-inch square swap, including how to keep track of everybody's contributions.
Then, in the second part, they give directions for a series of quilts from very easy to a little more complicated (though none of them are actually difficult). Even the easiest quilts are surprisingly complex-looking, and all of them are designed to be made in three sizes. The color scheme of most of the quilts shown is medium-to-dark traditional prints on cream, but there is no reason not to choose a completely different scheme. (I am thinking about oversize splashy prints on a black-and-white background for one of the simpler quilts, for example, or bright plaids on batik.) Now all I have to do is start cutting...

Successful Scrap Quilts from Simple Rectangles [Paperback] Review

Successful Scrap Quilts from Simple Rectangles [Paperback]When I first looked through this quilt book I knew that it was one I was going to have to have eventually, even though the price seemed a bit steep. I was particularly struck by a design called "Bento Box" which is made up of Japanese fabrics - completely made of rectangles which are cut 2"X31/2" and combine Japanese indigos with colorful kimono type fabrics. There were several other very attractive quilts, including the one featured on the cover. I realized that what I like best are quilts that combine simple piecing with colorful, interesting fabrics, and that is the basis of this book. If you feel the same way, I highly recommend this book.
I also thought the introduction (which describes the collaboration of the two women who wrote the book together) was touching.
