Cool Girls Quilt: More Than 15 Fresh, Fun and Funky Projects (That Patchwork Place) [Paperback] Review

Cool Girls Quilt: More Than 15 Fresh, Fun and Funky Projects [Paperback]Bright and wild projects that only a young girl could love --- that's what you will find in COOL GIRLS QUILTS containing 14 projects and six quilts. The colors are hot pinks, oranges, lime greens and purples with a bit of brown thrown in.

The projects include things like pincushions, pillows, aprons, a tote bag and greeting cards. The quilts are all wall hanging sized, none are given for a bed size quilt. The project instructions give a materials list, how to cut the fabric, how to do any appliqué required and instructions to complete the project.

All templates are provided but need to be enlarged.A section on basic quilting helps anyone unfamiliar with them or would help you brush up on any point you have forgotten.Beading and embroidery enhance a few of the projects

These patterns/colors are too wild for my tastes but I'm betting the younger generation will go wild for them.

More Fabulous Flowers: Mini-quilts in Dimensional Applique (That Patchwork Place) [Paperback] Review

More Fabulous Flowers: Mini-quilts in Dimensional Applique [Paperback]This book will keep you busy for many, many days/nights to come. The flowers are fabulous to look at but at the same time they are very time consuming.

The book begins with an introduction to what dimensional flowers are all about, followed by a tools and supplies section to show you what you will need to create them.A 3-page basic quilting section is next and a 9-page section covers how to make the different flowers.

There are 20 projects that include flowers made from Prairie Points, made by ruching and made by strip-piecing.Each pattern shows a color photo of the finished project along with the finished size.A short paragraph about the project begins the pattern instructions.A materials list, making the quilt top, making the flowers and finishing the quilt are the sections that make up the whole pattern. There are some graphics to help explain the written instructions and full sized templates if needed.

There is a 3-page gallery of quilts made with these flowers and a page on where to find the resources. The final page is a two-paragraph bio about the author. If you are into detail, this is the right book for you.

Quilts from Paradise (That Patchwork Place) [Paperback] Review

Quilts from Paradise [Paperback]Is appliqué your thing? If so, Quilts from Paradise should keep you happy for a dozen projects.

The dozen quilts and two bags are all done in beautiful colors but VERY appliqué intense. These definitely will not work for our charity quilting group. There are a few that the appliqué could be left off of to make a simple quilt but I wouldn't buy the book if that is the type of patterns you really want.

All the templates are included at full size which is very nice.I always hate to have to run out to the copy shop to enlarge a pattern before I can begin. The instructions need to be read very carefully in order to follow what is being said and keeping track of which appliqué piece goes with which other ones might be difficult unless you put each "unit" together in a plastic baggie.

The materials list is very straight forward but I did find the cutting and assembly instructions for a few difficult to follow. There are just way too many pieces to keep straight. There is a color photo of the finished quilt and the finished block and quilt sizes are provided.

Unless appliqué is something you enjoy doing and are at easy with keeping lots of pieces straight, I wouldn't recommend this book.It is definitely not one for a beginning quilter.
