Journey of an Art Quilter: Creative Strategies and Techniques [Paperback] Review

Journey of an Art Quilter: Creative Strategies and Techniques [Paperback]Was literally a personal journey, very inspirational and passionate, sharing her own inspirations and techniques, beautiful color photos and details, absolutely amazing from the heart and soul, especially since I am not a quilter myself but a painter always looking for creative design, color, pattern, composition, etc. in other medias. Thought I would pass on to my sister who is a quilter but a keeper for my art library and ordered another copy for my sister who loved as said dreams of taking her seminars! Very magical, would especially recommend to quilt artists as very contemporary and she wonderfully shares her techniques and ideas.

Applique Masterpiece: Little Brown Bird Patterns [Illustrated] [Paperback] Review

Applique Masterpiece: Little Brown Bird Patterns [Paperback]I found this book to be an absolute delight. The illustrations are exquisite and Margaret Doherty's conversational style is easy to read and understand. I learned a lot of new techniques, for instance, using parts of a large scale fabric to piece a very small bird. In one instance, she used a cobblestone fabric for the birds breast.
I am interested in developing small projects and feel that any one of the 40 squares would make a masterpiece item.
A quote from the author's preface: "I work as a pediatrician and each night after dinner, I do a crossword puzzle and sew for about six hours." sums up the author'sapproach to this form of fabric work. The challenge in looking at fabrics, colors, and techniques in a new way is worth the price of the book.

Time Crunch Quilts [Paperback] Review

Time Crunch Quilts [Paperback]I ordered this book before it was available because I saw it advertised on Nancy Martin's pageand I'm always looking for quilting shortcuts.Usually a book like this has sidebars on time management rather than actual time saving techniques--so I was totally stunned with the original twist tothis book! Also, I don't like to copy exact patterns from books--I like todesign my own--but Nancy included so many compelling patterns--that I'mgoing to make some of them!Sawtooth Mountains is exquisite! My only fearis that every quilter will make this quilt and they will be everywhere! Sewand Sew is wonderful with three pieced sewing machines. I've got to make itfor my sewing room! Tea Party, Three Little Pumpkins, and Quilts In theAttic are on my list too! I love the button quilting! And since I'm new toquilting--obvious tips like turn the square on point and add side trianglesto make a bigger block--are sweet music to my ears. The directions areclear and the color plates are awesome! Loved the CD--its clear and focusedand shows all the time saving tips close up. Thank you Nancy forsuch aterrific book.
the accidental quilter,
