Ruth B. McDowell's Piecing Workshop: Step-by-Step Visual Guide Indispensable Reference for Quilters Bonus Projects [Paperback] Review

Ruth B. McDowell's Piecing Workshop: Step-by-Step Visual Guide Indispensable Reference for Quilters Bonus Projects [Paperback]Unfortunately I missed out on a live workshop with Ruth and sent my best buddy in my place instead. She LOVED it!!! Even though I tried to practice her techniques in her other books, I never quite 'got it'. I guess I'm just more of a 'show me what you do' kind of person.
This book changed all that and I made her sugar maple quilt quickly and easily and I'm thrilled with the outcome! Also, with her guidance on inset seams, I finished a difficult navajo quilt that had had me stumped because I couldn't get the seams set in just right. But with her latest book, it was like having this amazingly talented and wonderful lady right there with me! She is such inspiration, her quilts are outstanding and absolutely fabulous! Thanks Ruth, -can't wait for the next one!!!

Quilting Made Easy: More Than 150 Patterns and Inspiring Ideas for Creating Beautiful Quilt Blocks (Davis, Jodie, Foundation Piecing Library.) [Hardcover] Review

Quilting Made Easy: More Than 150 Patterns and Inspiring Ideas for Creating Beautiful Quilt Blocks [Hardcover]Compared to most other foundation piecing books, this is a super bargain! Each block is not only pictured in fabric, but also in a full design so you can see what the overall effect will be once it is finished(which is great when deciding on fabric placement).
In addition, most of the blocks are shown in alternate arragements and have a 4"and 2" size to photocopy (which helps cut down on photocopying costsand design angst, as it reduces the amount of enlarging/reducing you haveto do).
The designs range from very basic to the more complex, although there are not any extremely difficult ones. You may find some ofthe basics are repeats if you own other foundation piecing books, but theother hundred or so designs you won't have will make it well worth yourwhile. This is a MUST HAVE for any foundation piecer's library!

Warm Welcome: Cozy Quilts for Baby (That Patchwork Place) [Paperback] Review

Warm Welcome: Cozy Quilts for Baby [Paperback]I need 36 hours in one day to work on all the quilts in this book that I want to make.Oh where do I start? With 17 quilts, it will be hard to pick one to start with.

A 16-page section on the basics of quilting begins the book.Things like what foot to use, how to do appliqué, binding and tags are among the hints and how-to's you will find here. Each project begins with a paragraph about the quilts followed by a material and cutting list.A page is devoted to a photo of the finished quilt and the block and finished quilt size are also given.

Making the blocks is explained next and graphics help to show what is being sewn.Finishing the quilts is pretty much left up to your individual tastes and desires but the area in the basics sections on preparing to quilt gives a fair overview of what to do.

Between the dominoes, tents, airplanes, kittens, shoes and rainbows - to name a few - I will be in 7th Heaven making quilts for the next few months! There is even a basket pattern that is made from strips so no curves to deal with.Plus the rest are made with strips and triangles - no difficult or odd pieces unless you count appliqué figures.

Either way, these quilts are perfect for beginners or a guild making charity quilts.I will be sure to take my copy to my guild.

Stack a New Deck: More Great Quilts in 4 Easy Steps [Paperback] Review

Stack a New Deck: More Great Quilts in 4 Easy Steps [Paperback]I like this book SO MUCH more than the original Stack the Deck. The variety in this book is great, and the concept is easy to follow. Plus, the quilts look GREAT. My hand-dyed fabrics really shine in these quilts, and I can showcase special pieces with ease. The Red Onion quilt is my favorite, although I was really attracted to the floral squares one, as well. My only issue with the book is that the borders shown are fairly plain-jane - some different examples would be nice. But hey - if that's the only thing wrong, I can find borders (or create some) for myself!

I lurve this book because it shows that a simple pattern can product a lovely result. It certainly will be my go-to book for baby quilts.
