Oriental Carpet Design: A Guide to Traditional Motifs, Patterns and Symbols [Paperback] Review

This book has been my "bible" on the subject of oriental rugsfor about 5 years. It has been a source of knowledge and great pleasure asI have learnt more and more on this fascinating subject and purchased manyrugs in the meantime. It never stays in the bookshelf very long, as I amfrequently referring to it as the rug buying "bug" hits me. Thebook is comprehensively illustrated and has detailed information onsubtleties of pattern design, which help in the identification of differentrugs, even within a single district. I cannot recommend this book toohighly as an attractive and informative book for novice or experienced ruglovers alike. In comparison, I have been a little disappointed with"Oriental Rugs, Vol 2,PERSIA", which I purchased recently (seeseparate review).

No color, no patterns, no quilt specifics.Just general Amish-info.Mostly talks about present-day quilting for sales to tourists, polester batts and poly-cotton fabrics, as though more traditional quilts are just history.
If you're a quilter, spend a few dollars more to own intriguing and satisfying books --e.g, *****Amish Crib Quilts from the Midwest: 90 color photos which clearly show every great color combination and quilting pattern + dimension, date, fabric info, etc. Any quilt pictured can go straight to big-bed size w/ application of a little arithmetic.Also gives us a new appreciation of cotton chambrays & simple warm baby quilts.

Keepsake Quilts for Baby 1412601 [Paperback] Review

This book has several quilt patterns that I'm anxious to make and the instructions seem easy to understand.I think some of the quilts are too pretty to use, but I'm looking forward to at least making a few of them.I love the quilt on the cover and that will be the first one I make.

People paper piece because of the desire for accuracy.People who have tried to paper piece and don't like it have their reasons but I'm not going to explore those.This book has many advantages for people who already enjoy paper piecing with lots of tips how to improve patterns, your sewing, accuracy, and the speed of production.The bold color choices make the piecing decisions more obvious and also allow the quilter to choose to use these patterns for borders as well as blocks.There is an assembly line production demonstrated using strips that is what really tempts you into choosing this method as well.

This is NOT a baby blanket beginner book, you will have to have some quilting experience under your belt to get the most out of your first projects.

This is a very enjoyable book to add to your library.

Quilt Designs in Cross-Stitch (An American Sampler 1989) [Hardcover] Review
